This month we want to point out someone who works in numerous capacities with countless individuals to ensure our continuing development in the right direction, the shining star that is Wendy Adams.
As Director of Program Partnerships, Wendy enjoys learning about the innovations within the senior living market. She meets with various emerging vendors and collaborates with industry thought leaders. These developing partnerships assist TSOLife in how we work to continually improve our offerings for senior living communities.
When asked what the most rewarding part of her position was here at TSOLife, she cited it’s knowing that she works for a company that offers technology to make life easier for those who work in senior living and the opportunity to connect with other individuals who share a desire to better the lives of seniors.
With a career that spans experiences as an Executive Director, Director of Operations, Regional Sales Manager, CMP Manager, and other roles within the senior living industry, it may be her time in education where she worked with special needs students that truly exemplifies Wendy’s hard work and dedication to helping improve the quality of life for others.
When you have the privilege to work with seniors in a community, not only do the residents become part of your second family, but so do some of their loved ones. One of her favorite memories, among so many, is a story about a man who deeply loved his wife. For sharing, she chose to simply refer to them as Ted and Ellen. After 60 years of marriage, Ted sold his home to move Ellen into the trusting care of a senior living community. As her dementia and other health complications progressed, she was no longer mobile or verbal. With that said, her expressive eyes and smile spoke volumes to everyone each day. Like clockwork, Ted would arrive at the community by 8 am and sit by Ellen’s side, feeding her breakfast and later lunch, talking to her, and sharing memories with the staff about the fantastic trips they took around the country in their RV. When he was ready to leave, he softly kissed her forehead goodbye and said, “Until next time, my dear.” This day repeated for as long as Wendy worked in the community. Ted was so proud of the life he and Ellen shared together. One day he stopped by Wendy’s office with a gift. He had made a calendar filled with the stories about him and his wife’s travels, along with pictures each month showing their adventures together. This absolute treasure of experiences brought Ted’s stories to life and, very importantly and lovingly, provided a window to see Ellen in her vibrant years. Wendy shared that she still has that calendar in her office and will never forget Ted and Ellen or the honor that was felt being a part of the care staff for his most treasured gift.
With a heart full of joy and excitement, Wendy shared that she would love to travel to Italy and Greece someday. She and her caring husband, Brad, hope to make this trip as part of their 30th-anniversary celebration, just 2.5 short years away.
